Protein Bliss Balls

Over the weekend I finally got my act together and bought a food processor. Oh yes! I’m already dreaming of all the cake bases, crusts, salsas and sauces I’m going to crush, slice and whip to my hearts content.

Goodbye trying to coerce my huge smoothie blender into dicing almonds. (Hot tip? It doesn’t work).

To test out my new toy, I threw together some leftovers I had in the cupboard and created Every Healthy Day’s Protein Bliss Balls. They were a hit with the two lads I live with, one whom slammed down a couple after his gym workout.

Who’s excited about a food processor now?


1 cup raw walnuts

Decent serving of fresh Medjool* dates depending on how many balls you want to make.

*Don’t use any other kind of date – trust me on this. Some dates have a sugary coating, or have hidden preservatives which give them an artificial taste.

1 tbsp Sun Warrior Raw Vegan Protein (I used vanilla flavour)

2 tbsp raw cacao

2/3 cup rolled oats

1 tbsp coconut oil

1 tbsp natural nut butter

1 tbsp agave (optional)

Organic shredded coconut for coating balls


Roughly crumb the walnuts and oats in the food processor to begin with. Gradually add dates and all other ingredients (minus shredded coconut) until your mixture can form solid small balls with your hands.

Add more dates or a tiny bit of hot water if your mixture is too dry, more oats or walnuts if you find it’s too wet. Coat balls in shredded coconut and refrigerate before serving (the balls hold better).

The best thing about this recipe is you can throw in whatever ingredients you have lying around – and create your own style bliss ball. Grab a few for breakfast, a morning snack, an afternoon snack, a midnight snack, or maybe just I-want-a-snack-so-I’m-eating-a-snack snack.
